Lord Elgin 4632 “Oxford” (c. 1955)

Early 1950s Lord Elgin driver’s watch – one of the last of the flexible lug models produced by Elgin.

The Lord Elgin Model 4632 was one of the last of the driver’s watch (flexible lug) designs produced by Elgin. The watch dates to the early 1950s, and exhibits a nice modernist take on the flexible lug design. This particular example is all original and in Excellent condition.

The 4632 has a 14K yellow gold filled bezel and back. The case of this watch is in Excellent condition and is free from brassing or wear through. This is a signed Elgin case, manufactured by Wadsworth. Note the patterns on the bezel above and below the dial. They are crisp and look like new. Similarly, the long hinged lugs show no sign of wear from a metal band — a common problem on watches of this style.

The white dial of this watch is in Excellent condition with no spotting or stains. The applied gold numerals and markers are also in Excellent shape, as are the gold daggar-style hands.

The watch is powered by Elgin’s popular and reliable 21 jewel 670 movement. This watch is running properly and keeping good time.

We’ve added to this watch a very nice new leather band that complements the piece nicely. It is ready to wear.

Note that this watch has not been serviced while in our possession and we do not know the service history of this piece. While it is running well and keeping good time now we do advise all vintage watch owners to have their watches regularly serviced to assure the longest enjoyment.
