14K Lord Elgin Model 4506A (c. 1941)

1944 Lord Elgin in solid 14K yellow gold

This is a vintage  Lord Elgin in solid 14K yellow gold. This beautiful watch is all original (except for the band) and working properly. We’re including with the watch an original Lord Elgin watch box.

This model originally appeared in the 1941 Elgin catalog and was advertised as “extremely thin.” (The watch sold for $100 in 1941!) The design is a very clean, elegant piece and an excellent dress (or formal wear) watch. Due to the size, it is suitable for use by a man or a woman. Note that the watch is a bit small by contemporary watch standards.

The case is solid 14K yellow gold. The case is signed Elgin, but was manufactured by the Wadsworth Watch Case Company. The case is in Excellent condition with only minor signs of use.

The dial is in Excellent condition with a butler finish and applied numbers. The hands are also in great shape.

The movement is Elgin’s reliable 559 calibre 21 jewel movement. This was one of Elgin’s top of the line pieces in the 1940s. Note that the serial number of the movement dates to 1944. We don’t know whether this is a replacement movement, or whether this watch was assembled after 1941 (easily possible as civilian watch production was suspended during the War Years).

We’ve added a new Kreisler lizard grain leather band and we’re including an original Lord Elgin watch box. This watch is ready to wear and would make a great gift.

The watch winds, sets and runs well but has not been serviced while in our possession. We recommend that you have your vintage watch serviced regularly to assure accuracy and a long life.
