Coral Gold “Ross” (1940)

An excellent example of the most desirable of the Hamilton Ross models – the Coral Gold Ross. With a 14K coral gold filled case and Hamilton’s reliable 19 jewel 982 movement, this example is in excellent condition and keeping good time. This watch is all original and is ready to wear.

The Ross has become one of the most popular of Hamilton’s pre-war models. Though this watch is nearly 70 years old, the styling remains vital and relevant. The classic simplicity is complemented by the use of fine materials — a 14K coral gold filled case, 18K gold hands and applied rhodium numerals. The watch is powered by Hamilton’s exemplary 982 movement — a high quality 19 jewel movement widely recognized for its accuracy and durability. The watch was manufactured in relatively small numbers from 1938 to 1941. The coral gold version is the rarer of the varieties and this example is believed to date to 19340.

The 1940 Hamilton catalog lists this watch at the price of $55. Converted to present value, that is in excess of US$700! This watch is engraved on the case back: “J.S. Irish from H&B”

The watch measures 24mm x 37mm. It is relatively small by modern watch standards and can be worn comfortably by men or women. We’ve added a new old stock lizard grain calfskin band.

The watch is currently running strong with good reserve. We have not serviced this watch. While it is running well now, we would encourage you to have it serviced to ensure you get the longest pleasure from this vintage piece.
