Gruen Precision “21” (c. 1949)

This is a model 335-752 Gruen Precision 21, dating to around 1949. This is one of the watches Gruen produced with an American made 21 jewel movement (instead of using imported Swiss movements). This watch comes with an original vintage Gruen 21 watch box and a new leather watch band.

This is a model 335-752 Gruen Precision 21, dating to around 1949. This is one of the watches Gruen produced with an American made 21 jewel movement (instead of using imported Swiss movements). This watch comes with an original vintage Gruen 21 watch box and a new leather watch band.

The watch bezel and back are in Very Good to Excellent condition. This is a high quality 10K gold filled case made for Gruen by Jonell. The bezel is square and features large and unique conical lugs. The case does not show any brassing or wear through of the gold fill. The crown is signed “Gruen.”

The dial is a cream color with a satin finish. Though hard to see in the photos, the dial shows four distinct quadrants. The dial includes gold applied numerals and markers and, beneath the 12, the “21” shield. The gold dagger hands are free from rust. The original glass crystal is without scratches or chips. The case measures 26.7 mm (not including the stem) by 37.5 mm (including the lugs). The watch is powered by Gruen’s 21 jewel 335 movement and it is running and keeping good time. We’ve added a new stitched leather watch band.

Included with the watch is a vintage and original Gruen Precision 21 watch presentation box. This is the correct box for this model watch. The case has a dark blue leather (?) exterior and a felt finished interior. The interior is in Very Good condition, the exterior has two spots of wear but is overall in Good condition.

The service history of this watch is unknown and it has not been serviced while in our possession. While the watch is keeping very good time right now, you will probably want to have a jeweler clean, oil, and adjust the watch to get the greatest accuracy and the longest enjoyment from your vintage watch.
