Elgin E-4 (1928)

Highly collectible Elgin E-series watch with the rarer 15 jewel movement.

A beautiful and highly collectible Elgin E-4. Many of these watches came with 7 jewel movements, but a few, like this one, came with the higher quality 15 jewel movement. This watch dates to 1928 and is all original (except for the band). We’ve had the movement cleaned, oiled & adjusted and the watch not only looks fabulous but runs great, too!

This model is part of the E series that Elgin issued in the late 1920s. These were the height of Elgin style for the period and exhibit great design and quality. The bezel and sides are engraved and the case itself is 14K yellow gold filled. The case of this particular watch is in Very Good condition with no wear through. The back is also free of damage. The lug holes are in good shape and the watch has weathered the years in very good form. We’ve left the hands and dial in their original condition, as we wanted to offer this piece for collectors in its all-original cosmetic condition.

The movement is the 6/0 sized 15 jewel 428 movement. The movement was serviced in December 2014 and runs and sets just fine.

We’ve added to the watch a brand new Hadley-Roma leather band. These watches were originally sold with pigskin bands and this particular band matches the color and style of the original. The watch is ready to wear.

Note that this was originally issued as a men’s watch but it is rather small by today’s standards. It can be worn by either a man or a woman.
